Abstract: This paper focuses on the key applications of silicon foam in the thermal protection of new energy vehicle batteries. Silicon foam has low density, flame retardant properties and certain electrical insulation properties, and is suitable for key applications such as new energy vehicle battery cache insulation, waterproof sealing and flame retardant. Its stability, waterproofing, ability to shrink damage and flame retardant properties make it an ideal material for new energy vehicle battery protection.
With the rapid development of new energy vehicles, battery insulation protection is crucial for battery performance and safety. Silicon foam, as an excellent material, plays a key role in new energy vehicle battery protection.
First of all, the low density of silicon foam makes it an ideal material for thermal insulation. Through the foaming process, the density of silicon foam can be reduced to 0.16-0.20 g/cm3. In the battery cache insulation, silicon foam can effectively relieve the battery in the process of charging and discharging the heat generated by the battery to avoid the battery due to thermal expansion and contraction of the deformation and damage caused by the prolonged service life of the battery.
Secondly, silicon foam has good flame retardant properties. Added flame retardant silicone foam can reach UL94-V0 flame retardant grade, effectively reducing the battery work due to combustion and safety issues. This makes the silicone foam in the application of electric vehicles more reliable and safe.
In addition, silicon foam has a certain degree of electrical insulation properties. Although the use of physical fillers may reduce the electrical insulation properties of silicone foam, but in the appropriate design and selection, silicone foam can still provide adequate electrical insulation protection. This is critical to the safety and stability of the battery system.
In summary, silicone foam, as a low-density, flame-retardant material with some electrical insulation properties, has key applications in the thermal insulation protection of new energy vehicle batteries. Its stability, water resistance, ability to shrink damage and flame retardant properties make it an ideal choice for new energy vehicle battery protection. With the continuous development of the new energy vehicle market, silicone foam is expected to play a greater role in the field of battery thermal insulation protection, making an important contribution to the reliability and safety of the battery system.
